Make your request
Alt + V is the default Assistant shortcut. Ask a clear question or say the outcome you want, finish recording, and read the response. Recording uses the same tap-to-toggle or hold behavior as dictation. A text response is different from dictation into your active field.
Questions and writing
Ask for an explanation, a summary of information you provide, or a draft such as a short formal letter asking a colleague for more project time. Give the facts that matter. Assistant should not be assumed to have live web search, your inbox, a calendar, or arbitrary computer control.
Ask for an action explicitly
You can request creation of a reminder, timer, Scratchpad note, dictionary entry, or a running stopwatch. State the time, duration, or content clearly. Visit the corresponding page to verify the result and use manual controls afterward.
Type a response when wanted
For the quick Type Assistant Response action, press the first key of your configured Assistant hotkey within two seconds of the response notification. For the default Alt + V this is Alt. Focus the intended field and review the inserted text. You can also explicitly request supported typing rather than assuming every answer is typed.
Use the right processor
Standard handles everyday questions, writing, and supported actions. Enhanced adds eligible on-screen and selected-text context and more flexible combinations. Enhanced requires an eligible plan and available credits. Context switches and response tone have their own settings.
